Overview
Pier55–Hudson River Park: a magnificent piece of land on the river that revitalizes a part of Hudson River Park with three acres of new public park space, featuring greenery and arts programming, over 100 tree species, public art installations, and three distinct performance venues along the waterfront.
Role: Executive Architect / Individual Contributor (led seating design) · Timeline: 2015–2019
Design Process
Led seating-design exploration through multiple mockup iterations, collaborated with engineers on site testing, and contributed to the functional design of back-of-house operational areas supporting park activities.
Design Challenges
Balancing engineering requirements, construction expenses, and aesthetic goals was the primary challenge, alongside working across unfamiliar cross-functional teams.
Outcomes
The park opened May 21, 2021. By 2023, it had presented 572 shows and recorded over 3 million visitors. Design studies with program management and landscape architects provided construction guidelines that reduced delays.
